Adult Workshops

Autumn classes offered by Melanie Craig-Hansford, a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Melanie holds degrees in Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Art Education. In 1982, she studied painting in Florence, Italy for a year. She taught high school visual art in Alberta and Ontario, and now lives in Erbs Cove where she works in her studio.

 

Art Journaling for Stress-Relief, with Melanie Craig-Hansford.

“For me, art journaling has been therapy, a distraction, a diversion, a journey and a way to let my soul know I am listening.”

Participants will meet for eight, two-hour sessions to learn how to use an art journal to relieve stress, chronic pain or illness, and worry. No previous art experience is necessary. Melanie will teach you how to use collage, stencils, fabric and drawing materials to create unique visual expressions of your day-to-day experiences.

When: Wednesdays, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Oct. 4, 18, Nov. 1-29, and Dec. 6.
Where: AX, the Arts & Culture Centre of Sussex, 12 Maple Ave., Sussex.
Note: to access workshop room, participants will need to climb a flight of stairs.
Cost: $80 for all eight weeks, plus $30 materials fee


Learn How to Draw, with Melanie Craig-Hansford.

This 8-week class is for those with limited or no drawing experience. Melanie will start with the basics of drawing and take you through exercises from the Betty Edwards book: Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Participants will work from still-life and practice the art of drawing what you see.

When: Wednesdays, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., on October 4, 18, November 1-29, and December 6.
Where: AX, the Arts & Culture Centre of Sussex, 12 Maple Ave., Sussex.
