About the Workshop

Looking to try something new or freshen up your existing journal practice? Learn how to use junk materials like discarded paper, cardboard, old books and much more to create your own unique and eco-friendly journal where the possibilities are excitingly endless. This workshop will walk you through the process of gathering secondhand or found materials, organizing and binding them into a functional art journal or scrapbook, and decorating to your heart’s content. Participants are encouraged to bring junk paper and cardboard plus any images, fabrics, or trinkets that would make your journal feel special to you!

About the Artist

Ellen has always had a love of books, as well as many artistic interests such as writing, drawing, photography, and collage. She has been journaling and drawing as separate practices for over 20 years, but it wasn’t until 2020 that she discovered she could combine her many interests into one art form known as the junk journal: a book made from discarded materials to suit any artistic purpose. An environmentalist by trade, she enjoys being able to bring sustainability into her art practice by integrating otherwise useless items into new creative expressions.
