Tile Decoration Workshop

Tiles can be one of the most simple things to make with clay but also feature some of the most complicated decoration. Tiles, trivets, coasters, garden tiles, wall decorations, serving dishes and more are all examples of the multiple applications for tiles. They also make great gifts!
Join AX’s Ceramics Centre Coordinator, Matt Cripps, for this 4-day pottery workshop that will guide you through the process of tile making and decoration. Individuals of all skill levels can register! This workshop will take place at AX on November 7-8 and 21-22 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Wearing a mask and following physical distancing rules are required at all times in AX and during the workshop.

Itinerary

Day 1, Saturday, November 7, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Introduction to tile making and high/low relief techniques. Make tiles for next class.

Day 2, Sunday, November 8, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Introduction to sgrafitto technique. Make tiles for next class

Day 3, Saturday, November 21, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Introduction to underglaze technique.

Day 4, Sunday, November 22, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Introduction to on glaze technique and glazing tiles.

Please note that participants get to keep all of the work they create, and this workshop does NOT include using a pottery wheel.

Cost and registration

Cost: $250/person. Cost includes all materials including a 10kg bag of clay. Participants get to keep the remaining clay after the workshop.
