Over the course of three Sundays in October, local professional artist Bonny Hill will guide you through a series of exercises to combine elements of photorealistic painting and abstract painting. Participants will work from a photograph of rocks, beginning with photorealistic techniques to capture light and dark, and finishing with approaches to adding texture and surface interest through the use of acrylic mediums, impasto, glazing and lively surface treatments. During this workshop, you will produce one complete painting and several small studies.
If you’d like to attend this workshop, you must register by September 24. There are limited spots available. This workshop is open to all experience levels and you don’t need to have taken a previous painting workshop to attend.
Please bring your mask to the workshop.
Day 1, October 3: On the first day, Bonny will review right brain exercises as well as grid techniques that will help participants paint the image from a photographic reference. You will also review basic colour theory.
Day 2, October 10: In this class, participants will use acrylic mediums such as polymer emulsion, modelling paste, and gloss mediums to add surface interest to their work.
Day 3, October 24: On the last day of this workshop, participants will continue to add surface texture to their artwork using experimental approaches in glazing and impasto using squirt bottles, palette knives and pouring techniques.
