Choice Cuts, Monthly Open Mic Readings
Please note: Due to the continually changing dynamic around community health concerns, AX‘s gallery is open, but we are not offering in-person events at this time. However, we are hosting some online and outdoor events, so stay tuned – please watch this website or our Facebook page for updates.
AX is pleased to hold monthly open mic literary readings on the first Thursday of every month, 7:00 p.m. These evenings have become quite popular, with readers and audience members coming from across the province to attend.
Looking for a supportive place to try out your original writing? Join us on the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. for Choice Cuts open mic literary readings, hosted in the AX gallery.
Writers of all levels, from beginner to professional, are encouraged to bring their original poetry, fiction, or non-fiction to read, and there’s no pressure. Readings are under 5 minutes each, and open mics will be hosted by a local author who will help guide the evening. Regular Choice Cuts hosts include authors Beth Powning, Gerard Collins, and Jane Simpson.
Whether you want to share a short piece of your work or listen to other original writers from our region, check out Choice Cuts at AX – there’s no charge to attend, and readings will take place in the gallery.
Choice Cuts Open Mic Readings at the Rotary Amphitheatre
On August 12, for the first time since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, AX hosted Choice Cuts in an outdoor setting at the Sussex Rotary Amphitheatre. The event was a huge success with many readers sharing their poetry, short stories, and even excerpts from memoirs. Readers pre-registered to sit in designated bubbles, mics were sanitized between readings, and fun was had by all!
