AX is pleased to offer our very first “on-the-wheel” pottery workshops, and you can choose whether you attend the weekend or weekday sessions!
These 3-day workshops will consist of an introduction to how to use the pottery wheel, step-by-step help on making your first pieces on the wheel, and will also include an element of ceramics hand-building. Classes are limited to 4 participants to ensure everyone receives the necessary time to use the pottery wheels.
The weekday workshops will take place on November 3, 4 and 15. The weekend workshops will take place on November 5, 6, and 13. Details can be found on the registration forms (weekdays / weekends).
The wheel workshop is recommended for those who already have some experience with hand-building pottery techniques.
Day 1: During the first session, you’ll be provided with your materials – a 10kg bag of clay and a pottery tool kit – and Matt will offer examples and demonstrations of techniques. Half of the group will then learn the beginner steps of throwing on a pottery wheel with Matt, while the other half works on their own using hand-building techniques. Matt will be available to answer questions.
Day 2: In this session, you will learn the basic steps of trimming your thrown pottery, and you’ll be able to add attachments to the pieces you made during the previous class (handles, feet, etc.), explore decorating techniques, and create more work.
Day 3: In this final session, you’ll decorate and glaze your works. After your work is fired a second time, Matt will coordinate a time for you to pick up your completed projects.
Note: Participants will keep all of the work they create as well as their pottery tool kit and remaining clay.
If you have any questions, or if you need help filling out the online form, please contact us at info@axartscentre.ca or 433-8351.
