Photorealistic Acrylic Workshop

$85 registration fee + $25 optional materials fee/participant.

Join local professional artist and long-time art instructor Bonny Hill in this series of painting exercises to shift into the right-brain thinking required to achieve photographic realism. You will learn to paint using gridwork and other methods to produce photorealistic paintings based on some images provided by Bonny and some chosen by you. These three art classes will focus on black and white as well as colour painting and you will produce three paintings, one from each session.


Class 1, March 21: For your first painting project, Bonny will teach you how to use only black and white to recreate tonal values on a 9”x12” canvas. You will work from a photographic image supplied by the instructor and learn how to use a grid approach.

Class 2, March 28: For this class, you will supply your own photographic image and you’ll work on a larger 12”x16” canvas, with the option of adding colour with acrylic glazes.

Class 3, April 11: For your final class, you will paint on a large canvas and use a full colour palette, working from a colour photograph.

The option to have these materials provided for a $25 fee will be available when you sign-up. If you would like only some of the materials provided, instructions to arrange for this with Bonny Hill will be in the registration form.


Due to COVID-19 this class is offered in the AX Gallery space with physically distanced workstations, as per our operational plan and Health NB Mandate. Masks and physical distancing are required at all times in the AX building and during the workshop.
