Film Description

This will be the first screening in New Brunswick of The Last Lucivee, a short film created and directed by Matthew Brown and Janice Wright Cheney. Shot in various locations in the Wabanaki-Acadian forests of NB, it tells the dystopian tale of a naturalist who is determined to prove the existence of the fabled Eastern Cougar.

The cougar once roamed the woodlands of Eastern North America, but today, industrial forestry practice has nearly destroyed any remaining viable cougar habitat. Now, the cougar exists only in our collective memory, except for the occasional, much debated, sighting.

Uniquely for this festival the artists are creating The Naturalist’s Cabin an installation where viewers can become acquainted with the naturalist before entering an adjacent space to watch the 11-minute film.
